Thoughts from Janice Snyder – Town Council Candidate for the South Windsor United Community Party

Janice Snyder, United Community Party Candidate for South Windsor Town Council
Why am I running for South Windsor Town Council and what motivates me to serve?

Elected officials must be leaders that represent South Windsor in a responsible, trustworthy, and respectful manner. The Council must govern for the electors, not political parties. Truthful, dedicated, committed and transparent leadership is difficult to find and even harder to exercise. My goal is to use my experience to effectively approach South Windsor issues, make sound, well-educated decisions and show a level of respect to everyone.

Does Jan Snyder have any experience and what is it?

I do have many years of experience in the government arena.  I consider actual hands-on experience and training to be an asset which I can bring to the South Windsor Town Council.

  • South Windsor Board of Education: 14 Years serving on the South Windsor Board of Education (4 years as Chair, 6 years as Vice Chair
  • South Windsor Town Councilor: 10 Years serving on the South Windsor Town Council
  • Manager: 41 Years as a State of Connecticut Department of Transportation employee, then Manager in the procurement and materials management offices. Managed administrative and operational staff ranging from 40 to 65 employees from multiple State labor unions.
  • Trained in facilitation strategies, pandemic operations, purchasing, materials management, asset management, contract bids and awards, executing contracts, contract compliance with State and Federal regulations, ethics, strategic planning, conflict resolution, leadership, workplace violence, sexual harassment prevention, equal opportunity employment, and customer service.
Why does Jan Snyder think she can bring about change in South Windsor’s Town government?

Well, I understand governmental administration and operations, have strong listening skills, employ thoughtful approaches to resolving divergence, well-educated on issues facing the residents and Town, demonstrate the ability to treat everyone with respect, exhibit decisiveness,  model civility, kindness and allegiance to the position in which I am serving. I have had extensive background in governmental administration and operations and have served on countless committees which required all the skills I mentioned above. No progress is made when leaders battle each other. Every conflict can be resolved through compromise, although achieving compromise among Councilors may require effort.

How does Jan Snyder feel about Education?

I’m concerned about increasing enrollment and delivering education to a wide variety of student needs. I have lived in South Windsor since 1986. My children were both educated through South Windsor Schools, (graduated in 2005 and 2008) during a time when overcrowding was a HUGE issue. At that time, the Administration and school staff throughout the district worked vigorously to continually turn out successful students. Appropriate resources are critical to success for all Board of Education staff.
